Food halls and open-air street food markets reopen, inviting relaxed meals by the water, and neighbourhoods buzz with café life and shopping. Spring in Copenhagen’s Parks

Winter in Copenhagen is filled with sound and light, as the city embraces culture during the darkest months. In February, the citywide Winter Jazz Festival presents hundreds of concerts across concert halls, clubs and intimate venues. The festival is the winter edition of the renowned Copenhagen Jazz Festival, carrying its open, citywide spirit into the colder season.

Also in February, the Copenhagen Light Festival illuminates buildings, bridges and public spaces across the city, adding artful light to streets and waterfronts. Together, music and light transform winter into a vibrant and atmospheric cultural season in the Danish capital.

Copenhagen Dining in Spring

In spring, Copenhagen’s food scene comes alive with lighter flavours, seasonal produce and a renewed sense of openness. Classic open-faced sandwiches (smørrebrød) highlight fresh herbs, fish and crisp vegetables, while the New Nordic Cuisine reflects the season through local ingredients and clean, natural flavours.

The city’s food halls, Torvehallerne, remain a popular stop for everyday bites and culinary inspiration. Creative neighbourhoods such as Vesterbro and Nørrebro continue to define the city’s innovative dining culture. From March onwards, open-air street food markets reopen by the waterfront, with Reffen and Broens Gadekøkken welcoming visitors to enjoy relaxed outdoor dining as the days grow longer.

Copenhagen from the Water

Exploring Copenhagen from the water offers a fresh perspective on the city’s striking architecture and harbour life.

Options range from traditional canal tours to intimate experiences with providers like Hey Captain, where a private skipper guides a small group of travellers. For a more independent adventure, you can rent an electric picnic boat from GoBoat or Friendships—no license required. Simply pack a lunch and navigate the canals at your own pace.
